Pay Scale

Santa Fe County is under the Municipal Police Plan 5, which is the largest contributing police retirement plan under the New Mexico Public Employee’s Retirement Association (PERA).

Speciality Pay

  • SWAT – $100/month
  • FTO – $130/month
  • Detective – $310/month
  • Traffic Accident Investigation Unit – $100/month
  • Warrant/Fugitive Division – $100/month
  • K-9 Handler – 45 minutes/day compensation for care and maintenance

Shift Differentials (additional to hourly rate of pay)

  • Swing Shift (2 PM – 10 PM) will receive shift differential pay of 5% of their hourly rate for hours worked.
  • Split Shift (between the regular swing shift and graveyard shift hours) will receive shift differential pay of 7.5% of their hourly rate for hours worked.
  • Graveyard Shift (10 PM – 6 AM) will receive shift differential pay of 10% of their hourly rate.

Paid Leave

  • 10 Paid Holidays
  • 1 Personal Day paid

Annual and Sick Leave

Annual and sick leave is accumulated every pay period. Leave accrual is based on years of servic (YOS) at Santa Fe County.

Group Insurance

  • 80% (County), 20% (employee) contribution per pay period for thos eearning under $30,000 per year
  • 75% (County), 25% (employee) contribution per pay period for thos earning $30,000 to $50,000 per year
  • 63% (County), 37% (employee) contributon per pay period fo rthose earing over $50,000 per year

RETIREMENT

Tier One Pension Factor = 3.5% each year (State of New Mexico PERA)

NOTE:  Tier One applies to anyone hired up to July 1, 2013

  • 56.8% total county contribution toward Municipal Police Plan 5 Retirement Package
  • 20 Years of Service credit = 70% of salary
  • 20.11 Years of Service credit = 80% of salary
  • 25.9 Years of Service credit – 90% of salary

Tier Two Pension Factor = 3% each year (State of New Mexico PERA)

NOTE:  Tier Two applies to new hires from July 1, 2013 and after

Specialty Duty Assignments and Pay

Bargaining unit employees may receive pay for assignment to a maximum of two specialized duty assignments at any one time. In order to apply for specialty or additional duty positions you must have two continuous years with the Sheriff’s Office.

  • Detective – Bargaining unit employees below the rank of Lieutenant who are assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division/Narcotics Unit, will be compensated at the rate of $310.00 per month.
  • Field Training Officer (FTO) – Bargaining unit employees below the rank of Sergeant designated by the Department as a Field Training Officer will be compensated at the rate of $130.00 per pay period.
  • S.W.A.T. Team – Bargaining unit employees below the rank of Lieutenant who are assigned as a regular member of the S.W.A.T Team will be compensated at the rate of $100.00 per month.
  • Traffic Accident Investigation Unit (Fatal Team) – Bargaining unit employees who are assigned to the Traffic Accident Investigation Unit (Fatal Team) will be compensated at a rate of $100.00 per month.
  • Warrant/Fugitive Division – Bargaining unit employees who are assigned to the Warrant/Fugitive Division will be compensated at a rate of $100.00 per month.
